Residency Conferences
Change-of-shift Teaching Rounds: Senior residents have daily teaching opportunities at departmental clinical rounds by providing a "medical minute" teaching pearl.

Asynchronous Learning: Video-recorded conferences are available for online viewing with an interactive question and answer option. We also provide one hour of online learning for residents each week in place of in-person lectures.

Simulation: Residents participate in frequent sessions at the BIDMC Shapiro Simulation Center. These skills sessions emphasize high acuity cases, team work and communication, and are designed to complement the core curriculum.
Procedural Skills Lab: Sessions to practice high-yield procedures such as advanced airway skills, pericardiocentesis, central lines, transvenous pacing, and more.

Ultrasound Lab: Hands-on ultrasound sessions focusing on both foundational and advanced ultrasound modalities.
Morbidity & Mortality: Weekly conference during which time clinical cases are analyzed, allowing participants to propose solutions to clinical problems and discuss alternative management strategies.

Grand Rounds: Monthly lecture focused primarily on current areas of controversy or research in Emergency Medicine and are given by speakers with nationally recognized expertise.
​
Seminars: Bimonthly lecture designed to cover the core content in Emergency Medicine and to provide problem-based learning and active participation in order to facilitate retention and comprehension of material.

Interest Groups: Informal small group sessions where residents can explore certain areas of interest such as Medical Education, Operations, Ultrasound, EMS, and more.

Research Conference: Monthly conference to learn foundations of research, review resident research proposals, and for residents to practice their presentations prior to regional or national meetings.
​
Journal Club: Review of literature on a selected topic with a concentration on content and methodology. Journal Club is held at a local sushi restaurant!

National In-Service Exam: Curriculum and practice testing to promote success for the American Board of Emergency Medicine Exam.
​
Oral Boards Case Prep: Faculty members proctor oral boards case simulations throughout the year in order to prepare residents for the American Board of Emergency Medicine Oral Exam.
